Reading have signed former Lille striker Cedric Baseya until the end of the season with the option of a further year, subject to international clearance.

Baseya, 23, was with French Ligue One side Lille last season and spent time on loan at Le Havre, but joins Reading on a free transfer as he is currently out of contract.

"We've known about him for quite a while now. He has played out in France and was at Southampton as a youngster," said Royals manager Brian McDermott

"He's about 6ft 4in and he's good in the air, so will win headers. He's aggressive and he's still very young.

"He's pleased to come here and it's a deal we're pleased to do. He'll come in and be part of the group of strikers we've got here and we'll see how he develops with us. I'm sure he'll do really well in the next year."

Baseya is no newcomer to English football. He spent two years at Southampton up until 2008 and also spent time on loan at Crewe during the 2007/8 season.
