Brighton manager Gus Poyet was buoyed by his side's second-half display in the 2-1 Carling Cup defeat by Liverpool.
Craig Bellamy marked his second full debut for the Reds by finishing neatly from a tight angle in the seventh minute and Dirk Kuyt doubled Liverpool's advantage, before Ashley Barnes pulled one back from the penalty spot.
"It was an easy half-time meeting," Poyet said after Albion's first defeat at their new Amex Stadium. "There are some days when you are sitting there and thinking 'what am I going to say?' but that was very easy."
He added: "There were too many players desperate to play. They were waiting for the game and we lost half an hour not being alert, not being aware of what is going on.
"We were not there as a team for some reason [in the first half] and that was the aim of the game.
"Of course go and try to win it, but see if we could be ourselves against anyone - and we did it in the second half."
