With a home game beckoning against Wolves at the weekend, Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is hoping a return to Anfield can bring the Reds back to winning ways in the Barclays Premier League.

After an unbeaten start to the season prior to the international break, Kenny Dalglish's side have lost back-to-back games since their return to domestic action.

But victory over Brighton in the Carling Cup on Wednesday has lifted the players' spirits, and Skrtel hopes his teammates can rebuild their momentum.

"We always look forward to our home games because there is something special about playing at Anfield," he told "It's a great feeling every time we win at home and hopefully we can do that on Saturday.

"We know Wolves have a few good players and they started the season well but if we play like we did against Bolton at Anfield we know we are more than capable of getting the win.

"Our 3-0 win away at Wolves was one of the best performances of last season and hopefully we can do the same again."

The 26-year-old Slovakian international served a one game suspension at the Amex Stadium, but could be in line for a return to his favoured centre back role this weekend, after Daniel Agger was ruled out of action for several weeks with a rib injury.

"We had a bad day at Tottenham," admitted Skrtel. "It wasn't the best performance from the team and myself so we need to put that right on Saturday.

"We've got five centre backs now and I think that can only be good for the club and for us because we need to fight for our position and give our best in every training session. That's the only way we can improve.

"I have tried to do my best in training and show the manager I am ready to do a job for him."
