Manchester City are preparing a £30 million bid for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The Dutch striker, who hit his 100th Arsenal goal during Saturday's win over Bolton Wanderers, is yet to sign a new contract at the club.

His current deal runs out in 2013, and Arsenal are fearful City will pounce to sign the player in similar circumstances to how they signed Samir Nasri.

Van Persie has refused to discuss a new deal with Arsenal, as the club are going a transition phase after the sale of Nasri and captain Cesc Fabregas.

If Van Persie does state his intentions to leave the club, Arsenal may cash in on the 28-year-old, like they did with Nasri this summer.
