QPR boss Neil Warnock has expressed his delight at the return of striker Jamie Mackie.

The Scottish international has spent nine months on the sidelines after suffering a double leg break in the FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers last season, returning to first team training on Friday.

And the 26-year-old got his first taste of competitive action earlier today in the 5-3 reserve team win against Brighton, much to the excitement of his manager.

"I didn't want anyone knowing that he was going to play in the match today. I decided yesterday that he would be involved, and told Nigel Cox (Head Physio) that I wanted him to have 20 minutes," the Hoops boss told the club's official website.

"I knew it would give him a big lift mentally to feature, but I didn't tell Jamie until after today's training session. He didn't need asking twice!"

"I have never seen anyone work as hard as him to get fit. He can't wait to be involved with the First Team again, so let's hope everything carries on the way it's going for him at the moment."

Mackie himself is desperate to repay the faith shown in him by the club, and appears to be on the fast-track back after less than a week's training before the second string appearance.

Like all strikers, he already has his sights set on goals, and is eager to fire the club to safety in the Barclays Premier League this term if called upon.

"Friday was the first full day back with the boys, and it felt amazing to be out there with them - it's been too long!" he told the QPR website.

"The Manager has been quality with me all the way through. He has always kept me in the loop with the rest of the lads and has never had a problem with me travelling for away games even though I couldn't play.

"I can't wait to repay him with a few goals when I am back."
