Leeds are ready to offer new deals to skipper Jonny Howson and several other key first-team players in a bid to head off potential interest from rival clubs.

The current contracts of midfielder Howson, striker Ramon Nunez, defenders Aidy White and Ben Parker and midfielder Lloyd Sam all expire at the end of the season.

"We're well aware of the contractual position of all our players and we don't want to get backed into a corner," chief executive Shaun Harvey told the club's official website.

"Discussions with all of those players who we'd want - and who you'd expect us to want - to keep beyond the end of their existing contracts have taken place and or will commence shortly."

Michael Brown signed a 12-month deal in the summer with the option to extend by a further year, while recent signings Mika Vayrynen and Mikael Forssell are on similar contracts.
