Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has insisted that he chose a move to Arsenal after they defeated Barcelona, and the Metro reports that the youngster snubbed Manchester United as a result.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has starred for Southampton since moving through the youth program to the senior side in 2010.

And after attracting attention from numerous European clubs, the England Under 21 international chose Arsenal over Manchester United as his final destination.

While United could offer a trophy winning side, and Arsenal could only offer Champions League football, Oxlade-Chamberlain said that the Barcelona defeat showed a club that is close to winning European honours.

"I came to a few games last season – like the Barcelona game here when they won – and I was blown away so that was it," he said.

Chamberlain went to Arsenal over United for a £12 million fee plus add-ons, and scored his first goal in the Champions League this week when the Gunners defeated Olympiacos 2-1.
