Alan Pardew has made Fabricio Coloccini a ‘wanted man’ at Newcastle, the Shields Gazette claims, as the Toon manager makes the Argentine his number one priority to sign an extended contract.

Coloccini has become something of a stalwart at St James’ Park over the last three and a half years, and Pardew sees the centre-back as an important part of the club’s long term future.

Earlier this week Newcastle shored up an extended deal with Jonas Gutierrez, and the 29-year-old said himself that he hopes Coloccini comes on board too for the long term.

While over the summer Newcastle let some big players go, including Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan, the club hope that Colloccini and Gutierrez will stay with the club for at least another four years.

“Colo’s on the agenda – there is no doubt about that,” the Newcastle manager told reporters. “He’s had a terrific start as captain.

“We have a different look to the team, and he’s part of that. Securing Jonas will only help in the process of trying to secure Coloccini.”
