Today is the day, Manchester United fans.

Cristiano Ronaldo will return home this afternoon as Manchester United welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford.

After sealing a sensational and emotional move back to United, Ronaldo is ready to hit the ground running in his second spell at the club.

Is this just a romantic story for the 37-year-old that the Red Devils simply couldn’t turn down? Or will Ronaldo take Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to the next level and lead them back to glory?

Well, Ronaldo insisted himself that he’s not returned to the club for a holiday.

"We will be here on the pitch trying our best and trying to win important things. This is what we are looking for," he said.

"This is why I am here, I am not on vacation, winning before was good but I am here to win. I am capable. I am ready to go."

Can you answer these 12 questions about Cristiano Ronaldo's first spell at Manchester United?

Ronaldo left the club in 2009 as the best player in the world, winning the Ballon d’Or six months previous. He returns as one of the greatest players of all time.

But he has unfinished business at the club.

He may have achieved almost everything in the game but, according to a feature from Planet Football, there are nine records he could break on his return to the Theatre of Dreams.

Let’s take a look:

1. First player to score 100 goals in England and Spain

Ronaldo scored 84 Premier League goals during his first spell at Man Utd before going on to score 311 La Liga goals for Real Madrid. It’s likely he’ll bag 16 league goals this season which would make him the first player to reach a century of league goals in England and Spain.

2. Most goals in a Premier League season

Ronaldo broke this record in 2007/08 with a remarkable 31 goals. However, Mohamed Salah surpassed that in 2017/18 with 32.

Ronaldo will be looking for his record back but is already playing catch-up having missed the opening three games.

Watch out, Mo.

3. Most Man Utd goals in a season

During that 2007/08 season, Ronaldo’s total tally was 42. That fell short of Denis Law’s record of 46 goals during the 1963/64 campaign.

Can he better that?

4. Oldest Premier League Golden Boot winner

Ronaldo is one of the favourites for the Golden Boot and, if he does win it, he’ll become the oldest player to win the award, beating Jamie Vardy who won it at 33.

5. Oldest Premier League hat-trick scorer

Ronaldo only managed one hat-trick during his first spell at United. He’ll have to wait until next season to become the oldest hat-trick scorer in the league as Teddy Sheringham holds that record at the age of 37 years and 146 days.

6. Most European Cup wins by a single player

Ronaldo is Mr. Champions League. He’s won the competition on five occasions - one of which came during his first stint in Manchester. If he wins it again, he’ll move level with Real Madrid legend Pace Gento on six titles. He’ll also become the first player in the Champions League to win it six times.

7. Man Utd’s record Champions League goalscorer

Ruud van Nistelrooy had a quite ridiculous record in the Champions League for United, scoring 35 goals in 43 appearances.

But this is Ronaldo’s conception and, having already scored 15 goals for the club, he’ll need another 21 Champions League strikers to beat Van Nistelrooy.

He’ll fancy his chances of doing that in the next two seasons…

8. Most Champions League goals in a season for Man Utd

On a similar note, Van Nistelrooy scored 12 goals in a single Champions League season and Ronaldo will be hoping to beat that. He did once score 17 during the 2013/14 campaign for Real Madrid…

9. Man Utd’s record goalscorer

Wayne Rooney won’t be too nervous about this record just yet. Rooney scored a record 253 goals while Ronaldo is on 118 strikes - juts the 136 goals behind.

That’s 34 goals every season for the next four seasons.

Surely not…
