Cristiano Ronaldo marks second Man Utd debut with goal vs Newcastle

Cristiano Ronaldo made his long-awaited second debut for Manchester United against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.

The legendary Portuguese forward was making his first Premier League appearance 12 years and 118 days after his previous outing at the end of his first spell back in May 2009.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named Ronaldo in the starting line-up and United fans gave the 36-year-old a hero’s welcome as he emerged for the warm-up.

Ronaldo started the match upfront, flanked by Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood. Bruno Fernandes was deployed in the No. 10 role, while Nemanja Matic partnered Paul Pogba in central midfield.

After league-leaders Tottenham suffered a surprise 3-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace, Ronaldo and his United teammates had the opportunity to end the afternoon top of the Premier League table.

This was the moment he stepped out at Old Trafford, wearing the famous red shirt for the first time in 12 years…

However, the first shot of his second spell with United left a lot to be desired.

Even the great man saw the funny side after completely mis-kicking the ball wide with his left foot from close range.

Here’s another replay…

Everybody inside the stadium expected the ball to end up in the back of the net. Instead, it hit the advertising boards.

But Ronaldo ended the half with a goal – inevitable wasn’t it? – capitalising on a mistake by Newcastle goalkeeper Federick Woodman.

He also did the SIUUU celebration.

What a moment for every United fan.
