Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd legend's highlights from second debut vs Newcastle

What a performance by Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo!

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s second debut for Manchester United could not have gone any better.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored a brace in the Red Devils’ 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Ronaldo took less than 45 minutes to find the back of the net in his first game for the Red Devils in over 12 years.

The Portuguese icon took advantage of Freddie Woodman’s failure to keep ahold of Mason Greenwood’s shot and tapped in from a few yards out.

Then in the second half, Ronaldo struck again to put United back in front after Javier Manquillo had equalised in stylish fashion for the visitors.

This time, it was a strike of pure quality from the 36-year-old.

After reminding the world he’s still absolutely rapid, Ronaldo collected a perfect pass from Luke Shaw and then fired the ball into the net, nutmegging a hapless Woodman in the process.

It really was classic Ronaldo at Old Trafford on Saturday and his individual highlights from the victory over Newcastle are simply a joy to watch.

A simply wonderful performance by a man who still plays football like he’s still in his conventional ‘peak years’ – not someone who is closer to 40 than they are 30.

Ronaldo even brought out his trademark step-overs at Old Trafford on Saturday, as well as displaying some top hold-up play in a central striking role.

It was a performance that screamed ‘maturity’ and that’s exactly what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team has been crying out for.

Ronaldo isn’t going to entertain like he did in his first spell at United, but he will lead by example and probably score goals far more regularly – like he’s been doing over the past decade or so.

You often see new signings for a top team labelled as a ‘game-changer’ and more often that not, that’s a bit of an exaggeration.

But in Ronaldo’s case, it’s anything but hyperbole and he could be the man to guide United to a first Premier League title in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
