Transfer insider Dean Jones would be surprised to see Serge Aurier sign for Arsenal or remain in the Premier League altogether.

What's happened with Aurier this summer?

Despite being Tottenham's first-choice right-back for the majority of the last two years, the Ivorian wasn't in Nuno Espirito Santo's plans.

Aurier made a couple of appearances in pre-season but was completely frozen out once the season got underway and wasn't involved at all in the Premier League nor Europa Conference League.

However, heading into the final few hours on deadline day, and against all odds, it looked like the 28-year-old was set to stay in north London.

But as the clock ticked towards the 11pm deadline, Tottenham confirmed that Aurier's deal was going to be terminated by mutual consent.

With the defender now a free agent, he's able to sign for clubs outside of the transfer window, and has since been linked with a shock move across north London to Arsenal, according to Sky Sports.

What has Jones said about Aurier's next move?

Whilst Jones expected him to be moved on by Spurs, he's played down the chances of him ending up at Arsenal by saying that he's more likely to move away from the Premier League.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I haven't actually got a lot of insight on Aurier. But it became clear for a while that he didn't fit at Tottenham, so it wasn't a huge surprise.

"I'd be surprised if another Premier League club took a chance on him – I'd expect him to go abroad."

Do Arsenal need Aurier?

Despite being the biggest Premier League spenders in the transfer window, Mikel Arteta's side are still short in some areas.

The Gunners could have done with bringing in another striker or centre-back, but one position they don't need filling is at right-back.

Hector Bellerin might have signed for Real Betis on deadline day, but he was replaced by Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu, whilst Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares have already played there this season.

So, for Aurier to come in, one of the latter two would have to leave.
