Aston Villa boss Dean Smith could strengthen his goalkeeping options by signing free agent Sergio Romero, according to Express & Star reporter Luke Hatfield.
What's the latest news involving Romero?
The former Argentina international was released by Manchester United after his contract expired at the end of June.
His departure from Old Trafford came having made 61 appearances for the Red Devils.
Romero was then linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea as they looked to bring in a third choice goalkeeper.
However, Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel then opted to acquire Fulham shot-stopper Marcus Bettinelli instead.
Respected football journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed Spanish outfit Granada also looked at signing the 34-year-old last month, but he remains without a club.
What has Luke Hatfield said about Romero?
Villa only boast two senior goalkeepers in Emiliano Martinez and Jed Steer, so journalist Hatfield believes Smith could make a move for Romero.
However, he has concerns that the shot-stopper, who won 96 caps for Argentina before his international retirement, would not be interested in heading to Villa Park to play a bit-part role following a similar experience at Old Trafford.
He told GMS: "Maybe they do need to add one more. I'm not too sure whether Sergio Romero would want to make that move to be third choice, but he does seem comfortable in that role as he did it at Manchester United for a long time.

"I suppose the real worrying thing is if Martinez were to suffer an injury and be out for three or four months, is Steer ready to take on that mantle of being a starting Premier League goalkeeper?
"Martinez is obviously the nailed-on starter but they could certainly do with a third choice goalkeeper. It's an interesting situation because Steer has put in good performances for Villa before.
"After him and Martinez, you are looking at a lot of youth goalkeepers."

Number one shot-stopper Martinez was forced to miss yesterday's Premier League trip to Chelsea in order to comply with the UK’s Covid quarantine regulations after being on international duty with Argentina.
Steer came into the fray despite having featured in just two senior fixtures last season, with both of those coming in the League Cup.
Prior to the weekend, Steer had enjoyed just 98 minutes of top flight action.
However, the 28-year-old has made more than 140 first-team appearances during his career.
