David Haye genuinely had the audacity to call out WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury following his victory over Joe Fournier in an exhibition match last night.

The 40-year-old came out of retirement for a fight against the 38-year-old and handed him the first defeat of his career after the two went the distance.

After the fight, Haye said that he'd like to make a return to professional boxing just to fight his long-term nemesis and countryman Fury.

He said: "There's one fighter I'd come back to professional boxing for. That's Tyson Fury. That big fat dosser, I know his kryptonite, I know what he can't handle.

"He wants a fight? 'The Hayemaker' will come for you. When Tyson Fury really wants a challenge, the fans want to see it, the fans want to see Tyson Fury facing someone who can knock him out. I know that he knows it, his dad knows it, his uncle knows it."

Haye's boxing career ended in 2018 following his second successive defeat to Tony Bellew. He was twice scheduled to fight Fury, but was forced to pull out on both occasions due to injuries. However, he confirmed last night that he is finally injury-free now and is eyeing up that fight at long, long last.

The former unified cruiserweight world champion said: "It's been in my mind for a long time, since 2013. The fight didn't happen, I got an injury. I've always wanted that fight. I've seen him get better and better. His reputation has got bigger and bigger.

"If I'm going to come back into boxing with a real fight, against someone special? That is the guy I know I can beat. I know his style. I know what he does well. My attributes don't work well for his style. Him and his team know that.

"They probably think I'm old so they probably will take the fight. I'm looking for the biggest fight out there - and you get no bigger than 6ft 9in Tyson Fury. I'd only come back for Fury. I don't want to show him what I've got left. I was able to win this fight without showing 'the Hayemaker'."

ENTER GIVEAWAY

Fury is scheduled to fight Deontay Wilder on October 9 and it will be interesting to see what he does after that.

There is a good chance he eventually takes on Anthony Joshua, if both of them come through their next fights unscathed that is, but a fight between him and Haye could attract some attention... perhaps.
