Anderson Silva scored a brutal knockout win over Tito Ortiz in the first round of their boxing match on Saturday night and the slow-mo footage of the winning punch is truly, truly savage.

The former UFC superstars, both 46 years of age, swapped the Octagon for the boxing ring in what was a crossover bout between two veterans.

However, the fight would be extremely short lived after Silva connected with an overhand right which proved too much for Ortiz to withstand.

Ortiz started well enough, pressurising Silva and putting together a few smart punching combinations. It very much looked like he was in control, but his lack of head movement when coming forward was exposed as Silva picked his moment brilliantly and caught Ortiz cleanly with a right hook, following up with a left which saw Ortiz go crashing down to the canvas.

Silva, a legend in mixed martial arts, fought as recently as last October, losing out to Uriah Hall in a middleweight contest.

The Brazilian was once regarded as the best ever mixed martial artist to step foot in the cage, before a horrific leg break back in December 2013 changed the course of his career.

Since recovering from the injury, Silva lost five out of seven subsequent fights, with one of his two victories being overturned as a no contest after he tested positives for banned substances.

But Silva has seemingly found his feet in boxing, and as a result, has managed to rejuvenate his legacy in combat sport.

Ortiz missed weight in preparation for the fight and was ordered to pay a fine directly to Silva for the matchup to go ahead. His first-round knockout defeat would round off a miserable boxing debut.
