Harvey Elliott suffered a serious injury in Liverpool's Premier League match against Leeds on Sunday afternoon.

The 18-year-old went down after a challenge from Pascal Struijk just before the hour-mark.

It was clear straight away that his injury was a bad one.

Mohamed Salah, who was closest to the incident, immediately turned away and waved on the physios.

Struijk was sent off by referee Craig Pawson.

Elliott was on the floor for some time before being stretchered off.

Elliott has since spoken out on social media following the challenge.

He posted a picture of him with his thumbs up alongside the caption: "Thanks for the messages. Road to recovery. YNWA."

The scoreline was 2-0 to Liverpool at the time of Elliott's injury.

Salah got the opener for Liverpool after 20 minutes, scoring his 100th Premier League goal in the process.

Fabinho then doubled their lead in the second half as she converted from a corner.

The game finished 3-0 to Liverpool as Sadio Mane put gloss on the result in stoppage-time. He rolled a defender inside the box and then fired the ball into the bottom corner.

It was a satisfying result for Liverpool and they are now up to third in the Premier League table.

But the game has sadly been overshadowed by Elliott's injury.

The 18-year-old has had such a good start to the season but he now looks set for many months on the sidelines.

We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.
