Joe Wainman has admitted that he needs to see more of Junior Firpo before judging him properly – but reckons the left-back needs time.

How has Firpo fared so far at Leeds?

It's been a difficult start to life in the Premier League for the 25-year-old, who made the switch from Barcelona for £12.8m this summer.

However, despite making 18 appearances for the La Liga giants last season, Firpo hasn't yet been able to establish himself as Marcelo Bielsa's first-choice left-back in the early parts of his Leeds career.

Firpo made his Premier League debut as a half-time substitute at Old Trafford, although it was an afternoon to forget following Leeds' 5-1 defeat.

Despite their second-half capitulation, Firpo was handed his first league start against Everton seven days later but wasn't involved against Burnley before the international break, with his only 90 minutes coming against Crewe in the Carabao Cup.

What has Wainman said about Firpo?

Whilst Wainman hasn't been overly impressed with Firpo's start to his Leeds career, he knows that the fans must remain patient.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "We haven't seen enough of him yet. He came off against Everton because of his fitness, and he was getting beaten by Iwobi – that's not good. Bielsa noticed that and made the switch, so I think it's going to take time."

Do Leeds need to remain patient with Firpo?

It looks that way. You don't start regularly for Barcelona in the Champions League if you've not got something about you.

But as Wainman stated, Bielsa isn't like any other coach. His intense, exhilarating training methods take time to become familiar with.

Once Firpo has not only settled into English football but adapts to Bielsa's needs, it surely won't be long before he makes that left-back spot his own and Leeds supporters are seeing the best of him.
