Some of the world's most well known strikers have been guilty of missing a guilt-edged chance.
Take Timo Werner for example.
The Chelsea striker is a great player but, for whatever reason, he's missed numerous chances for club and country over the past year.
But none of his misses were worse than Aster Vranckx's effort for Mechelen vs KV Oostende in the Belgian Pro League.
On September 12, 2020, Mechelen welcomed KV Oostende to the AFAS Stadion.
Vranckx, who was just 17 years old at the time, had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock in the 67th minute.
The ball bounced off the bottom of the bar and straight to the teenager.
Vranckx was all alone and just a few yards out. There was no way he could miss, right?
Well, miss he did.
Vranckx controlled the ball but he somehow fell over with the goal at his mercy.
His effort hit the post and an opponent was able to clear.

Madness. Just over a year on and Vranckx probably still has nightmares about the miss.
The video has gone viral once again with football fans expressing their disbelief at the miss. View some of the reaction below:
Vranckx's miss proved costly as his side fell to to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of Jack Hendry's 95th minute winner.
“I think I just had to kick the ball in. I took it wrong, and then I missed it," He told Eleven Sports after the game, per Goal. "It's a shame that I missed, but I'm just going to look to the next match and not let my head go crazy."
