Teofimo Lopez says he sees 'no point' in facing Vasyl Lomachenko for a second time.

Lomachenko, 33, made the perfect start to his comeback trail by stopping Masayoshi Nakatani at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas on June 26.

The formed unified lightweight champion then called for a rematch with Lopez Jr directly after the fight.

But Lopez, who was in Arizona for Oscar Valdez's mandatory defense against Robson Conceição, has responded by saying that 'I beat the man that everybody said was the man'.

"There's no point in fighting Lomachenko," Lopez told ESPN.

"I think that moving forward. That's all it is, keep moving forward.

"Everything happened for its reasons. That's really it. That's I beat the man that everybody said was the man.

"When the going went tough, he backed off.

"So now it's all about staying forward on it."

Lomachenko (15-2, 11 KOs) is desperate for a rematch with Lopez after losing their clash in 2020 on points.

However, the Honduran-American has shown little interest in running it back with the Ukrainian great, as he harbours ambitions of becoming an undisputed world champion in two weight divisions in the future.

"I did everything at 135, became undisputed," he added.

"Now it's about going to 140, becoming undisputed at 140, God willing, and just continue on."

Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) will return to the ring to defend his titles against unbeaten Australian George Kambosos Jr in New York on October 4. Unbeaten WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion Elin Cederroos and current WBO and WBC titleholder Franchón Crews-Dezurn will also battle it out on the same bill.

Lomachenko meanwhile is expected to face Richard Commey in a twelve-round lightweight bout at Madison Square Garden in New York two months later on December 11.
