Jaap Stam was a wonderful player for Manchester United.

The Dutchman signed for The Red Devils in 1998. He became the most expensive defender in history after signing in a £10.6 million move.

Stam would enjoy three great years in England.

He played 127 times for the club and helped them to six trophies, including three Premier League's and the Champions League title.

Despite his brilliance, Stam was sold to Lazio in 2001 for £16m.

But that wasn't the last time Stam represented United in a red shirt.

On May 26, 2019, Old Trafford hosted a legends game between United and Bayern Munich.

The event was held exactly 20 years after the 1999 Champions League final between the two sides and was played to raise money for Man United's foundation.

The game was meant to be friendly. But no one told Stam.

The Dutchman, who was a fierce competitor during his career, treated the game like any other.

He went on a rampage during his time on the pitch as he wiped out everything in sight.

Just look at what he did to poor Ivica Olic...

Stam even managed to floor three Bayern players in three seconds midway through the second half.

Some of Bayern's players probably woke up the next morning in pain at what Stam did to them.

United romped to a five-goal win on the day.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opened the scoring in the fifth minute.

Dwight Yorke's 30th minute strike gave The Red Devils a 2-0 lead going into half-time.

United would score three times in the final 15 minutes, with goals from Nicky Butt, Louis Saha and David Beckham giving them a convincing 5-0 victory.

With Stam in defence, it's no surprise that the German club failed to find the back of the net.
