Barcelona is in a mess at the moment, there can be no denying it.

Superstar forward Lionel Messi left the club in the summer, after gross mismanagement meant that the greatest player in the history of the club simply couldn't be registered for a new contract.

PSG swooped to take Messi off of Barca's hands but that was not the end of the problems.

They also were forced to sell Antoine Griezmann back to Atletico Madrid while President Joan Laporte admitted the club was suffering from crippling debt exceeding €1 billion.

Their playing squad looks painfully threadbare and fans are worryingly falling out of love the the La Liga powerhouse.

As if that wasn't enough, senior officials continue to find themselves at loggerheads as first team manager Ronald Koeman hit out at Laporte recently.

Koeman managed to cling onto his role in the Barca hottest over a dramatic summer.

However, that hasn't stopped Koeman airing his dirty laundry in public as he took aim at Laporta in an interview with Dutch broadcaster NOS over the weekend.

"My relationship with Laporta has improved but something happened last week that I think is not right," Koeman began.

"He was suggesting that the coach does not have all the power. He spoke too much and was not wise on two occasions.

"That can be done in private. I like when a president is engaged and asks questions, only that should not happen in the press. That was the problem.

"I'm open to staying, I'm just having a good time. Thanks to me, this club has a future."

Damaging comments, indeed.

Considering the current state of affairs at the club, fans would hope that their manager and president would at least be singing from the same hymn sheet.

That doesn't appear to be the case at all with Koeman feeling it necessary to publicly address his grievances with the president at the club.

The future remains unclear for the Camp Nou side but it could be a good old while before we see them dominating the European football landscape once again.
