Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd star was asked by three Newcastle players for his shirt

Ronaldo vs Newcastle

It was a dream second debut for Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.

The Portuguese superstar scored twice as United ran out 4-1 winners over Newcastle at Old Trafford.

His first came on the stroke of half-time as he reacted quickest after Mason Greenwood’s shot was parried by Freddie Woodman.

His second took the roof off Old Trafford.

Javier Manquillo had just equalised for the visitors when Ronaldo latched onto Luke Shaw’s pass and fired the ball through the legs of Woodman.

Ronaldo was well and truly back.

Knowing his winning mentality, Ronaldo will be disappointed not to complete his hat-trick as he played the entire 90 minutes during the convincing victory.

When did Cristiano Ronaldo make his debut for Manchester United?

The Newcastle players were probably left ruing the fact it was they who had to face United on Ronaldo’s homecoming.

However, it did give the Newcastle players an opportunity – an opportunity to grab Ronaldo’s shirt on his return to United. Imagine how valuable that shirt would be one day.

Despite Ronaldo scoring twice against them during a fairly heavy loss, as many as THREE Newcastle players can be seen asking for his shirt at full-time.

Footage has emerged that appears to show Isaac Hayden, Jamaal Lascelles and Joelinton all wanting Ronaldo’s shirt.

Each time, Ronaldo seems to turn down their requests suggesting that someone else has already asked him.

We’re not quite sure who ended up with Ronaldo’s shirt come full-time. However, it wouldn’t have been surprising if Ronaldo wanted to treasure his own shirt given the circumstances.

After his brace, Ronaldo admitted that even he was surprised by the impact he made.

“I didn’t expect to score two goals,” Ronaldo told BBC Sport. “I expect one but not two. I have to appreciate the fans and what they did to me today. I feel so proud for that.

“The most important thing was to win and to win games. Manchester [United] needs to be where they deserve. It is to win, to build the team and build the club and the mentality.

“This is what we are looking for. Of course I am happy to score goals I am not going to deny that but the most important thing is the team and the team played good.”
