WWE Raw: Company responds with flurry of women’s bookings after SmackDown complaints

WWE Raw

Since WWE was forced to cut the only scheduled women's match from the SmackDown broadcast last week, supporters have been frustrated with the franchise.

During a special showing of the blue brand on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, a women's tag team match was pulled from the card due to timing issues.

Liv Morgan and Toni Storm were scheduled to take on Carmella and Zelina Vega – which would've been especially disappointing for the latter as her father tragically passed away in the 2001 attacks.

In the world of WWE, the women are held in the same bracket as the men when it comes to popularity. Arguably, some female wrestlers – Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch for example – are classed as bigger names than some of their male counterparts.

However, the fact SmackDown failed to air a single women's match on Friday, or the week, prior has disappointed a lot of people.

But WWE seem to have recognised this and have attempted to make up for the lack of women's action on the blue brand.

On Monday night, a total of four women's matches were shown on Raw.

Charlotte Flair entertained Shayna Baszler, new tag team partners Nikki A.S.H and Rhea Ripley defeated Tamina and Natalya respectively, while Doudrop completely demolished Eva Marie.

It was a smorgasbord of entertainment on the red brand but some wrestling fans still aren't happy with how things were handled over on SmackDown. The main issue lies in the fact that the blue brand has now not featured any women's wrestling for two consecutive weeks.

SmackDown is bursting with female talent and the brand has just welcomed Becky Lynch back to the ring with an exciting new heel storyline.

There's a lot of potential with the Friday night segment and hopefully WWE has noticed the outcry for more spotlight on the women moving forward.

You can watch every single episode of Monday Night Raw live here in the UK on BT Sport.
