One of the biggest elements of a new release of FIFA is always the anticipation of the new ratings for some of the star players in the game.
The top 22 has already been released by EA, and there are a couple of notable expectations that fans were expecting to see.
Arguably one of the biggest shocks comes with the downgrade of a Liverpool player who had an exceptional run in the Premier League last season.
It has been confirmed that Mohamed Salah will be getting a downgrade to 89 in FIFA 22, after having a 90 rated base Gold card in FIFA 21’s Ultimate Team.
This wasn’t expected, as the Egyptian player scored 22 goals in the Premier League last season and just missed out on the golden boot.
It’s fair to say that a number of Liverpool and FIFA fans in general are completely baffled by the downgrade for the impressive player.
Why did Mo Salah get a downgrade in FIFA 22?
One fan on Twitter pointed out the discrepancy between Kylian Mbappe’s rating compared to Salah’s, although it is worth pointing out that Mbappe is the cover star for this year’s game.
They wrote: Mbappe - “FIFA 21 Rating: 90. PSG fails to retain the Ligue 1 Trophy after a long time and fails to win UCL. Mbappe Struggles in Euros, FIFA 22 Rating: 91.
“Salah - FIFA 21 Rating: 90, takes LFC to Top 4, misses golden boot by 1 goal. FIFA 22 Rating: 89. @EASPORTSFIFA how?”
Another fan would write that Salah’s rating has been the biggest mistake of the confirmed FIFA 22 ratings thus far. They wrote: “Tbh the guy that got screwed the most in FIFA 22 is Salah. Pretty insane they downgraded him.”
One fan was even harsher in their reaction to EA’s decision to make Salah an 89 rated player in Ultimate Team. They tweeted: “FIFA 22 is already a laugh of a game. I thought KDB being higher rated than Bruno was funny, never mind 3 ratings higher.
“But Son the same level as Salah is f*cking unreal. 85 rated player but FIFA couldn’t deal with seeing him cry anymore so they stuck him at 89.”
Salah will likely get upgrades throughout the season with TOTW, In-forms and other special cards being released by EA. Despite this, fans do not seem happy that the right-winger has been downgraded on his base card.
