Manchester United's return to the Champions League got off to the best possible start.

Less than 15 minutes to their clash with Young Boys, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his third goal in two games after a wonderful assist from Bruno Fernandes, putting the away side in control.

Still, life at this level is never easy.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off ten minutes before half-time after lunging into a rash challenge, forcing Jadon Sancho - who has yet to fully shine in the early days of his United career - off in place of Diogo Dalot.

After half-time, Donny van de Beek's rare start came to a premature end as Raphael Varane was introduced as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer switched to a back three in an effort to keep the home side at bay.

You can watch the incident below.

After taking a heavy touch, the 23-year-old scrambles to regain possession, leaving his foot (which made contact above the ankle of Christoper Martins) and, while it was checked by VAR, the former Crystal Palace right-back was given a straight red.

As ever, the topic is likely to cause debate online.

Still, it was the poor touch, something leveled against the £50m signing, that got him into trouble in the first place, causing him to lunge.

Indeed, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James and Kieran Trippier providing fierce competition at right-back at international level, it will surely be something he has to improve to force his way into Gareth Southgate's thinking.

There is a chance Wan-Bissaka could switch allegiances to DR Congo although, as it stands, that has not yet happened.
