Daniel Ricciardo is certainly having a good few days with the Australian basking in the glow of a long-awaited return to the top step at the Italian Grand Prix.
Indeed, it was a popular Formula 1 victory to see the 'Honey Badger' taking the chequered flag first at the weekend, and perhaps even more popular to see him end McLaren's 9-year hiatus from first place in the process.
Attention post-race quickly turned to a bet he and McLaren boss Zak Brown had made at the start of the season, too, whereby if the Aussie achieved a podium he would get a go in one of his hero's old NASCAR chargers; that of Dale Earnhardt.
Ricciardo boasts the no.3 on his car in homage to the American racing icon and is now set to fulfil a dream of getting behind the wheel of one of his old cars, one that Brown owns, as well as hoping that the victory will perhaps sweeten the deal even further:
"I’m like, maybe he gives me the car?" joked Ricciardo. "I think it was always a podium, I get to drive it.
"We never talked about a win, so I gave him my shoe that he drank out of, so maybe he gives me the car. It’s a good trade!"
Ahead of the race on Sunday, with Ricciardo well placed on the grid for a shot at the podium, Brown took to Twitter to remind him of the bet:
And, with the Aussie storming into first place at the first corner on Sunday, the bet is set to pay up.
