Former Formula 1 driver and Sky F1 expert Martin Brundle has given his full verdict on the crash between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at Monza, labelling it a 'racing incident.'

It's the latest incident between the pair that has caused an incredible amount of debate and hot-takes and, naturally, there are arguments on both sides of the fence being made.

For Brundle, though, who called it live on Sky Sports F1 at the time, it remains a racing incident in his personal view.

Writing in his regular post-weekend F1 column for the Sky Sports website, the former Jordan and McLaren driver explained how he saw it:

"Maybe it was an over-ambitious move but it had to be made. Max was fully committed, perhaps he should have braked or backed out of the throttle but I doubt there was time, and he wanted the pass.

"At the end of the day their rear tyres connected which is quite telling. Maybe Lewis should have yielded and given more space in that split second, he was a long way into the middle of the track towards turn two, but why should he?

"That's why in live commentary I called it a racing incident and I stand by that. The Stewards have given Max a three-place grid drop for Sochi, and given their copious amounts of car and track data, varied camera angles, and interviewing both drivers, they duly considered it more Max's fault than Lewis'."

In the end, as Brundle says, the Dutchman received a penalty that will be carried onto the Russian Grand Prix in just over a week from now, and we'll have to hope he and Lewis can complete their title duel on track rather than in the Stewards' room.
