Kevin De Bruyne will go down as one of the greatest players of the Premier League era when he eventually leaves English football. That’s unlikely to happen for some time yet. The Manchester City star is only 30 years old and has at least several more seasons at the highest level left in him.De Bruyne won the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award for the second successive campaign last term and is regarded by many fans and pundits as the best player in the Premier League right now.At the time of writing, De Bruyne has scored 42 goals and registered 78 assists throughout his Premier League career with Chelsea and Man City.Only nine footballers in Premier League history have provided more assists and it would be a shock if he fails to join Ryan Giggs, Cesc Fabregas, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard in the small group of players to register over 100 assists in the competition’s history. There isn’t a single manager in the Premier League who wouldn’t love to sign Man City’s world-class No. 17.p1ffl1ge7p18961mt0g791lve1lmlb.jpg

When Steve Bruce 'announced' Kevin De Bruyne signing

Steve Bruce once cheekily interrupted a De Bruyne interview inside St James’ Park to ‘announce’ that the Belgium international was signing for Newcastle United.

De Bruyne, celebrating his 29th birthday, had just inspired City to a 2-0 victory over the Magpies when Bruce crashed his interview.

“He’s going to stay here,” Bruce said. “That’s an exclusive out of Newcastle tonight. He’s had enough of Manchester City and he’s going to come and play for Newcastle.”

De Bruyne looked a tad embarrassed but saw the funny side.

Unfortunately for Bruce and Newcastle, there’s no chance that De Bruyne will be plying his trade at St James’ Park in the near future, barring a completely unexpected turn of events.

Because he’s such a technically gifted and intelligent footballer, we expect De Bruyne to be one of the first names on City’s teamsheet for a good few years yet.

And when he eventually leaves the Etihad Stadium, there will be no shortage of top clubs queuing up to secure his signature.
