Liverpool began their 2021-22 Champions League campaign with a 3-2 comeback victory against AC Milan at Anfield.Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated their opponents throughout the first half but it was Milan who went into half-time with a shock lead.A Fikayo Tomori own goal put Liverpool 1-0 up in the ninth minute before Mohamed Salah had a penalty saved by Mike Maignan shortly afterwards.The hosts continued to pile on the pressure and could have been at least two or three goals up before Ante Rebic netted a shock equaliser in the 42nd minute.Brahim Diaz then stunned Anfield by putting Milan 2-1 up on the stroke of half-time.That was Milan’s third shot of the game. Liverpool, by contrast, had 13 shots during the opening 45 minutes.
The Italians thought they’d scored a third goal moments after the restart when Simon Kjaer netted from close-range. However, the goal was disallowed for offside.Salah then made amends for his earlier missed penalty when he equalised for Liverpool, finishing off Divock Origi’s clever pass.With 20 minutes left on the clock, Jordan Henderson completed the turnaround with a superb half-volley from the edge of the box.
