Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

What's the latest news involving Pogba?

The 28-year-old is into the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, meaning that time is ticking for an agreement to be reached between the player and the club.

However, The Athletic's David Ornstein reported earlier this week that Pogba is leaning towards committing his long-term future to United following the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo on deadline day last month.

What has Romano said about Pogba?

Romano has confirmed that United's business in the transfer window this summer has left Pogba feeling happy about the club's progress. He has revealed that the 6 foot 3 creative midfielder has not made up his mind yet about signing a new contract, though.

He told The Here We Go Podcast“Manchester United have been great in working on a masterpiece this summer in the transfer market, because they have been perfect. They signed Sancho, Varane, Cristiano Ronaldo, and the feeling now is completely different.

“This is why Paul Pogba is really happy with Manchester United’s project, with Manchester United life, this is one point. The other point is: signing a new contract is completely different, and is not agreed yet. From what I’m told, also checking in the last hours, it is not agreed yet, it will take some time to see Paul Pogba putting a pen on the contract and signing a new deal with Manchester United.

“They need to find an agreement on many things, the economical side, but it’s also about, I would say, personal life for Pogba. He’s spent his whole career with Manchester United and Juventus, and he’s not a young talent now. We are talking about a player at the best moment of his life, and he needs to decide about the final part of his career. And so, this contract is an important one.

“He needs to decide if he wants to continue with Manchester United. If trying another league, maybe Spain, maybe France, so he needs to decide for his future, and at the moment it’s not decided yet. Them saying that the positive atmosphere is helping: 100% yes, because if United have chances, it’s because now the atmosphere is positive.”

Should Pogba sign a new deal at Man United?

The Red Devils made three high-profile signings this summer, and appear to be heading in the right direction, which could convince Pogba to sign on the dotted line.

However, they did suffer a shock setback in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, losing 2-1 away at Young Boys. Aaron Wan-Bissaka's red card made United's task more difficult, but the 13-time Premier League champions would still have expected to see the game out against their Swiss opponents.

Instead, they crumbled in the second half, and performances like this may cause Pogba to re-think whether the team can truly battle for major silverware this season. If he is not confident that they can, this may lead to him deciding that his future lies away from the red side of Manchester.
