To put into perspective the remarkable rise of Emma Raducanu, you need only look at her new ranking. The Brit started the year ranked almost 400th in the world, but is now on the cusp of the top 20.

When the teenager made her major tournament debut at Wimbledon earlier this season, she was ranked 338th. Three main draw wins later and Raducanu had already found her way inside the top 200.

By the time the US Open came around, the Brit had climbed further up the rankings and reached 150th. Two weeks later, Raducanu made history by becoming the first qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam title.

This is also meant the teenager racked up the most ranking points for a single event of any player ever –– claiming 40 for her three qualifier matches and 2,000 for winning the whole tournament.

It brings Raducanu up to 23rd in the latest rankings and above the likes of Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and her fellow finalist Leylah Fernandez.

The Canadian started the competition ranked 66th but moved into the world’s top 30 after beating three of the world’s top five players.

Raducanu has also become the new British number one, overtaking Heather Watson and former world number four and Grand Slam semi-finalist Johanna Konta.

The Brit is now a fully-fledged member of the tour and will have automatic entry into almost every WTA event and all four majors.

Having only played a handful of events, there is every chance Raducanu will continue to build on her current ranking and there is a strong possibility she could be a top 10 player by the time of next year’s Wimbledon.

However, a bizarre ranking rule will mean the Brit will almost certainly lose points at next year’s US Open, even if she retains her title. Raducanu claimed 2,040 points this year, but will not have to come through qualifying next time around, meaning the maximum points she could claim is 2,000.

For now, though, the teenager is just trying to enjoy the moment and has not thought that far ahead.

Speaking in her post-match press conference after the final, she said: "I definitely think it’s the time to just switch off from any future thoughts or any plans, any schedule. I’ve got absolutely no clue. Right now, I’ve got no care in the world, I’m just loving life.”
