The quality of performances the world has been treated to in 2021 just scratches the surface of what female athletes have to offer.
This year alone, we've witnessed unforgettable sporting moments – including a plethora of new records being set at the Tokyo Olympics.
As the popularity of women's sport rises, so do the salaries, the prize money, and endorsement deals for the respective athletes.
GiveMeSport Women takes a look at the top ten highest paid sportswomen right now, according to Sportico data from the last 12 months:
10. Inbee Park
South Korean golfer Inbee Park has built an impressive portfolio across her 15-year career on the course. The 33-year-old boasts seven major titles and an Olympic gold medal – she's also been the world number one on four different occasions.
In March this year, Park won the Kia Classic on the LPGA Tour, marking her 21st career victory.
Sportico reports that Park's earnings across a 12-month period (May 2020–May 2021), reached a grand total of $3.7 million (£2.6m) from salary, winnings and endorsements.
9. Mikaela Shiffrin
Mikaela Shiffrin is one of the world's finest alpine skiers and has dominated since turning pro at just 15 years of age.
The 26-year-old is a six-time world champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist. Her win at Pyeongchang 2018 saw her equal the record for most gold medals ever won in alpine skiing by an American.
During the World Championships earlier this year, Shiffrin won four medals, the biggest haul of her career at the tournament.
The US native earned a total of $3.9 million (£2.8m), with a whopping $3.5m (£2.5m) from endorsement deals alone. She works with the likes of Adidas, Land Rover, and Visa.
8. Megan Rapinoe
Megan Rapinoe is one of the world's most well-known football stars.
With an Olympic gold, two World Cup titles and countless individual accolades including the 2019 Ballon d'Or to her name, the forward is one of the most decorated players in the game.
Due to her huge status, brands have been clamouring to work with Rapinoe. At the moment, she is partnered with Nike, Subway and Victoria' Secret, to name a few.
Her gross earnings from the last year were heavily dominated by endorsements – $3.8 million (£2.7m) of her total $4.1million (£2.9m).
7. Alex Morgan
Like her USWNT colleague, Alex Morgan takes home a pretty penny thanks to her success on the international stage and her popularity among fans around the world.
Morgan also enjoyed a stint with Lyon in 2016, where she won the Division 1 title, the Coupe de France, and the Champions League at the end of the campaign.
The striker also recently dipped her toe in the action of the Women's Super League – joining Tottenham Hotspur on loan last season.
Morgan earned $4.3 million (£3.1m) over the last year. Partnerships with the likes of Nike and Coca-Cola made up $4 million (£2.9m) of her total income.
6. Garbiñe Muguruza
Garbiñe Muguruza is chasing down the top earners in the world of tennis.
The Spanish-Venezuelan star has two Grand Slam titles to her name and enjoyed a stint as the world number one in 2017.
Now ranked ninth in the world, Muguruza recently agreed deals with Jaguar and Nivea, adding to brands that include Adidas and Beats.
Muguruza earned $1 million (£725,000) in prize money this last year, with $3.5 million (£2.5m) on top from endorsements.
5. Kim Sei-young
Another South Korean golfer who is setting the course alight is Sei Young Kim.
Last year, the 28-year-old was named LPGA Player of the Year, and won the 2020 PGA Championship. She also holds the LPGA Tour's all-time 72-hole event scoring record at 31-under par.
Kim brought in a total of $4.7 million (£3.4m) at the end of this period.
4. Ko Jin-young
Ko Jin-young is the world's highest paid female golfer.
After winning two major titles in 2019 and being named the world number one, Ko secured lavish endorsement deals with LG Electronics and Solaire Resort & Casino.
Despite dropping to second in the world rankings, Ko still earned $2.1 million (£1.5m) in prize money and $3.5 million (£2.5m) through partnerships.
3. Simone Biles
Simone Biles is a trailblazer both on and off the apparatus. The gymnast has become a household name thanks to her unrivalled performances at the Olympics and World Championships.
She is viewed as the greatest gymnast of all-time and is certainly the most decorated with 19 world titles and four Olympic gold medals.
At just 24 years of age, Biles is the third highest paid female athlete in the world right now. She has a reported 11 endorsement partners including United Airlines and Uber Eats, which made up all of her $6 million (£4.3m) earnings this last year.
2. Serena Williams
Serena Williams is just one of two women to be listed on Sportico's top 100 list of highest-earning athletes.
Thanks to a remarkable career involving 23 Grand Slam titles, the 39-year-old is still hugely popular in the world of tennis and nobody is writing her off for a record equalling 24th major.
Subway is the most recent franchise to work with Williams, and her investment company Serena Ventures has pulled in more than 50 partners.
Across the last 12 months, Williams earned a staggering $35.5 million (£25.7m) in total, with just $1.5 million (£1m) of that coming from prize pots.
1. Naomi Osaka
The Japanese tennis sensation and mental health advocate is officially the world's highest paid female athlete.
With main endorser Nike reportedly paying her around $10million (£7.2m) per year, her fortune is spearheaded by her dozens of partnerships.
The four-time Grand Slam winner is one of the world's most recognised athletes and recently announced the release of her Netflix documentary 'Naomi Osaka', which is based on her life, as well as her Australian Open-inspired Barbie doll, which is currently sold out.
Osaka earned a grand total of $55.2 million (£40m) across the last 12 months.
