Wednesday night in the Champions League was supposed to be all about Paris Saint-Germain.For their match against Club Brugge, the French club started with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in attack. It was all set up for arguably the most exciting front three ever assembled to wreak havoc, but it certainly didn't pan out that way.PSG were held to a 1-1 draw in Belgium and it was Ander Herrera who grabbed the goal for the Ligue 1 outfit.Mbappe was the only member of the attacking trident to have any real impact, the Frenchman assisting the team's only goal.Sadly for PSG, he had to be taken off injured in the 51st-minute and was replaced by Mauro Icardi.Champions League Highlight Show | Football Terrace

Now, Messi and Neymar both produced sub-par displays against Brugge, but compared to Icardi's cameo, their performances were borderline world-class.

The Argentine striker was absolutely woeful. Per Opta, he only had six touches and was flagged offside on four separate occasions.

As is customary in the present day, a video of Icardi's 'highlights' versus Brugge has emerged on social media and honestly, the footage is actually painful to watch.

Misplaced passes, wayward efforts on goal and getting caught offside for no real reason, three things no striker ever wants associated with a performance.

Unfortunately for Icardi, that trio of negatives perfectly sum up his dreadful display under the lights in the Jan Breydel Stadium.

It's sad to see the 28-year-old perform so poorly, because in his prime at Inter Milan, he was one of the best strikers in world football.

In 219 games for the Italian outfit across all competitions, Icardi netted an impressive 124 goals and finished as Serie A's top scorer in both 2014/15 and 2017/18.

That's the Icardi which PSG and Messi are crying out for, although he may never rediscover that kind of form again in his career.
