Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha scored one of the most hilarious own goals we've seen in quite some time on Thursday evening. In the Italian club's Europa League group stage match versus Galatasaray, the shot-stopper handed the opposing team the lead in the 66th-minute of proceedings. To be honest, it's an own goal that almost defies description and it's one we'll be seeing on blooper reels for many years to come. One of Strakosha's teammates intercepted a cross into the box by hoofing the ball high into the air, just above the crossbar. It wasn't exactly the most sensible clearance in the world, but pretty much any goalkeeper from Sunday League upwards should be able to deal with such a situation.Sadly for Lazio and the club's adoring fans, Strakosha was unable to do that on Thursday night in Istanbul.Champions League Highlight Show | Football Terrace

The Albanian tried to catch the ball as it dropped down and failed at the task quite spectacularly, allowing it to bounce over the line after several ricochets to make it 1-0 to Galatasaray, which ended up being the final score.

Take a look at one of the stupidest goalkeeping errors of 2021 so far here...

It really does get worse with every single replay.

A mistake that astonishingly bad almost deserves a round of applause.

Strakosha is yet to play a single minute in Serie A for Lazio this season and after his antics between the posts in Turkey, that won't be changing anytime soon.

Pepe Reina, who is now 39, is currently the Rome-based club's first-choice 'keeper and the Spaniard will sleep soundly for a while knowing that his place in the team's best XI is safe - for now at least.
