Aston Villa latest news: Best is yet to come from £25m fresh arrival

Journalist Luke Hatfield reckons that the best is yet to come for Danny Ings at Aston Villa.

What has Ings done so far?

Ings has been a one-in-two striker in recent seasons, scoring 46 goals in 100 Southampton appearances, so two goals in his opening four outings for Aston Villa is about right.

In his defence, Ings has registered just three shots on target during his short Villa career – with his late penalty at Watford on the opening-day and his outrageous bicycle kick against Newcastle the source of those two goals.

Following a slight system change, Ings struggled at Chelsea on Saturday despite a decent attacking display from Villa, although the majority of their clear-cut chances fell the way of Ollie Watkins.

The £25m striker was taken off late in the second half and will be hoping to get back on the goal trail against Everton this weekend.

What has Hatfield said about Ings?

Despite failing to score in his last two appearances, Hatfield is confident that Villa supporters haven't yet seen the best of the England striker.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think you're probably yet to see the best of him in Villa colours, but he needs a little time to settle in, get used to the system.

"Working under a new manager, it was a new system against Chelsea, we haven't seen Villa play three at the back too often."

Should Villa have any concerns over Ings?

Absolutely not. When fit, Ings has established himself as one of the most lethal marksmen in the Premier League in the previous two seasons.

Where did Ezri Konsa start his career?

Ings has scored just seven fewer than Harry Kane and Mo Salah during that period, whilst outscoring the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford.

As Hatfield stated, Ings might need time to find his feet, but once he's fit and firing, there's no reason he won't be back in the goals and in the race for the Golden Boot once again.
