John Cena has opened up about the "catastrophic failure" that was the NFT project WWE launched ahead of his match with Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.

Ahead of his huge Universal Championship match at SummerSlam, WWE released some rare NFTs inspired by the 16-time WWE World Champion.

WWE made 500 'gold packages' available, which were valued at $1000 per unit. The package included an NFT and a limited edition merch box personally selected by Cena.

Things didn't go to plan for WWE and John Cena, as out of the 500 packages that were made available, only 37 were actually sold.

Speaking about the project at the Flordia SuperCon this week, Cena openly admitted that the idea completely "failed".

The 16-time World Champion also spoke about why the price for the package was $1000, stating that he and WWE "thought it was a fair price point". However, he noted that they were "wrong".

“I talk a lot about failure. This idea failed. Why was it $1000? Because me and the folks at WWE thought it was a fair price point. We were wrong. We were absolutely wrong. It’s okay to swing big. It’s okay to be wrong and okay to take chances, but when you are wrong and do fail and you have a moment where you can learn. Learn, course correct, move forward, grow.”

During the same fan convention this week, Cena admitted that he'd never work for another wrestling promotion, which you can read more about by clicking right here.

Cena was last seen on WWE TV on August 21 at WWE SummerSlam, and there is currently no word on when the former World Heavyweight Champion is going to be back working with the company.
