January Transfer Window 2022: When does it open, when does it close and which players are going to move?

Newcastle United's non-executive chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan is expected to be busy during the January Transfer Window 2022.

The January transfer window is often portrayed as the less glamourous of the two but still matches it with the drama it has produced over the years.

Clubs tend to be in the market for panic buying at this time of the year as injuries may be stacking up during the first half of the campaign.

With football as a whole in a unique place due to the COVID-19 pandemic and fans steadily returning to stadiums, the additional income from supporters returning through the turnstiles could cause temptation for some to spend some of their hard-earning income on some fresh new faces.

Whether it is offloading unhappy players or bringing in fresh talents, all clubs across Europe will be snooping around to see if they can bag themselves a bargain during the colder months.

Clubs playing in La Liga and Serie A will have to wait until Monday 3rd January 2022 before they can make changes to their respective squads.

When does the January transfer window close?

The January transfer window will close its doors for all leagues across the UK and Europe on Monday 31st January 2022 at 11:59 pm BST.

Which players are going to move?

Kylian Mbappe celebrates for France.

All eyes will be on Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe who was heavily linked with the Parc des Princes exit door over the summer and with Real Madrid heavily interested in his services.

With his contract in the French capital set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, it will be interesting to see if a pre-contractual agreement can be made during this window in line for a summer move - or a deal can be rustled up for an immediate transfer.

With Newcastle United and their takeover getting through, it looks like the Magpies could be incredibly busy, with Rio Ferdinand urging the North-East side to go out and sign Raheem Sterling, who is unsettled currently at Manchester City due to the Englishman's lack of consistent first-team football.

Aaron Ramsey applauds the travelling Welsh supporters.

Other players that have been talked about moving to St James' Park are James Tarkowski, Aaron Ramsey and Jesse Lingard, with Newcastle believed to be ready to spend big during the window.

Elsewhere, Paul Pogba and his Manchester United future is still in doubt with the 28-year-old into the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

Interested parties could come calling in January - although it is still a possibility that the World Cup winner could commit his future to the Red Devils.
