Arsenal latest news: Fresh update emerges on Mikel Arteta's future

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta looking exasperated

Journalist Paul Brown has explained why he thinks that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is not at risk of being sacked by the club for now.

What did Brown say about Arteta's position at Arsenal?

Arsenal have endured a disappointing start to the season, losing three of their first four league games, while only scoring once in those matches thanks to a scrappy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang goal against Norwich.

However, Brown feels that the Gunners' business in the recent transfer window shows that they trust Arteta, and he expects the club to stand by him for the moment as a result of this.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “I think he might get a little bit of time to turn it around. You can tell from what he says and what he did in the transfer window, buying all these players of a certain age for the future, that they’re going to have sell-on value and hopefully improve with the club was with one eye on the long-term.

“You don’t do that for a manager that you don’t have faith in being there very long, really. So, I don’t think it can carry on that Arsenal struggle at the wrong end of the table for too long, because ultimately his job is to get them back in the Champions League, and they’ve looked further away from that than they have for quite a long time.

“And I think if that trend continues, he’s going to be in serious danger. But, for right now, he is probably safe.”

Who did Arsenal sign this summer?

It is clear that Arsenal had a plan in place this summer - to bring in youngsters who can develop in the side over the coming years.

The north London club added six players aged 23 or under to their squad, including Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Takehiro Tomiyasu. All six of their new recruits have already received some game time in the Premier League this season.

Can these new signings save Arteta's job?

It's a big ask of a young group of players to keep Arteta in the dugout at Arsenal, but it does seem that some of them may end up playing a big role in determining his future.

Who was the most expensive Arsenal signing of 2021?

White and Tomiyasu have started games recently in the side's back line, and look likely to be trusted with keeping the opposition at bay moving forwards. Meanwhile, Odegaard could be handed the role of being Arsenal's chief creator this term.

However, if the team keep conceding goals at an alarming rate, and struggle to open up defences at the other end, this could lead to them continuing to pick up negative results, which in turn could leave Arsenal's board with no choice but to sack Arteta.
