West Ham United were not interested in signing new Crystal Palace star Odsonne Edouard during the summer transfer window, according to journalist Paul Brown.

What's the latest news involving Edouard?

Edouard had made it clear for some time that he was looking for a new challenge away from Celtic, with the striker even changing agents at the turn of the year in a bid to force through a switch.

However, the 23-year-old was forced to wait until deadline day before sealing a move, with Crystal Palace forking out an initial fee of £14million - which could rise to £18.5million - for his services.

It came after Palace opted against meeting Arsenal's £20million valuation for fellow frontman Eddie Nketiah.

West Ham were busy in the transfer market, with Alphonse Areola and Alex Kral joining on loan deals which have a view to a permanent switch.

The Hammers parted with £29.8million to swoop for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma, while Nikola Vlasic cost an initial £26.8million.

Craig Dawson also made his loan move from Watford permanent but, despite having just one senior striker in the form of Michail Antonio on their books, Moyes opted against rivalling Palace for Edouard.

What has Paul Brown said about Edouard?

Brown has confirmed that West Ham were not in the running to secure the services of Edouard during the summer transfer window.

However, he feels as though the Frenchman should have been on the Hammers' radar.

He told GMS: "We never heard any whispers that he was on West Ham's radar which, considering the start he has made, might seem a little strange.

"But Moyes is very picky and he knows exactly what kind of player he wants."

Should West Ham have signed Edouard?

The statistics suggest Edouard would have been an impressive addition to Moyes' squad, with him scoring 86 goals in 179 appearances during a trophy-laden spell at Celtic.

He also made the perfect start to his Palace career, scoring twice despite only being on the pitch for six minutes as his new employers recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

It is not just at club level where Edouard has shone as he is also the France under-21s' all-time record goalscorer after finding the back of the net 17 times.

With Antonio set to miss tomorrow's Premier League fixture against Manchester United, having been sent off at Southampton, Moyes may be wishing he now had Edouard to call on.
