Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has become a "leader" at the club, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

What did Brown say about Tierney?

Brown believes that Tierney, who is valued at £28.8m by Transfermarkt, is now a key figure for Mikel Arteta's men, and is a player who the team look to for inspiration when they are going through difficult moments.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “Tierney is kind of both an on-field and off-field leader, and he seems to give them that drive that they sometimes miss.”

What is Tierney's record at Arsenal?

Having joined Arsenal from Celtic back in 2019, Tierney endured a frustrating first season that was regularly disrupted by injuries, as he managed to make just 15 top-flight appearances. He still made himself available for the side's FA Cup final against Chelsea, though, as the Gunners edged past Frank Lampard's Blues 2-1 at Wembley.

In his second year at the club, Tierney was able to kick on, featuring in 38 games across all competitions, and his performances caught the eye of one outspoken Arsenal supporter. TV presenter Piers Morgan took to Twitter in February to heap praise on the £110,000-a-week left-back, writing: "Arsenal are a different team and different mentality with this ferocious Scottish warrior in the side. One of our best signings for a long time: Kieran Tierney."

To date, Tierney has played 66 matches for the north London club, providing nine assists from the left flank.

Should Tierney be handed the Arsenal captaincy moving forwards?

This is a subject that is certainly up for debate at Arsenal at the moment.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is currently in possession of the armband, but he was dropped for showing up late ahead of a north London derby clash with Tottenham in March - hardly the behaviour you would expect from the leader of a major club. Furthermore, he was not even a guaranteed starter for the side at times during the second half of last term.

Meanwhile, with Aubameyang quarantining at the start of the current campaign, Granit Xhaka was named captain, despite being heavily linked with a move to Roma in the recent transfer window. He then proceeded to get himself sent off against Manchester City last month as Arsenal slumped to an embarrassing 5-0 defeat. Once more, Arsenal fans would be right to expect more from one of their more experienced players.

Tierney is one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit, and has rarely let the side down on or off the pitch over the last two years, so he could be a suitable candidate to take over as captain in the not-too-distant future.
