Chelsea latest news: £33m Lampard signing tipped to become a "big success" at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea's home ground, Stamford Bridge

Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech can still have a successful career at the club, according to journalist Paul Brown.

What did Brown say about Ziyech?

Brown has admitted that he was concerned that Ziyech may struggle to get minutes on the pitch when the current campaign got underway last month. He has claimed that he has seen positive signs from the 35-cap international recently, though, and is now optimistic that he can flourish at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown said: “Ziyech, I thought he might be the odd man out to start the season. He didn’t really play a lot last season. Are there many really memorable moments that he’s had at Chelsea? He certainly hasn’t been the player he was in Holland so far. And he came in under the previous manager obviously, so he might have been the one most in the firing line.

“But I went to their last game and I watched him play in that, and I did actually see that he could be a big success in one of those roles, either in the Mount or Havertz role, because he was feeding lovely little passes into the channels for the wing-back or Lukaku to run onto. Sometimes it wasn’t always quite on the same wavelength as the players around him but I think that will come.”

How has Ziyech fared at Chelsea so far?

The 28-year-old endured a frustrating first season in England last year after Chelsea signed him for £33m while Frank Lampard was in charge, as knee and hip injuries limited him to just 23 top-flight appearances

He did make a bright start to life at Chelsea, registering four goal contributions in his first four league games for the club. However, he was not able to build on that, as he then failed to find the net again until the side picked up a 2-1 victory away at Manchester City in May.

This term, he played just eight minutes in the opening three domestic matches, before being drafted into the starting line-up for Chelsea's clash with Aston Villa on Saturday. As Brown mentioned, Ziyech put in a solid performance, making two key passes on his way to a WhoScored game rating of 7.47.

Can Ziyech fulfill his potential at Chelsea?

This season promises to be a big one for Ziyech. While Mason Mount and Kai Havertz are both only 22, Ziyech is six years their senior, and needs to step up quickly if he wants to thrive at Chelsea.

Did Timo Werner score on his Premier League debut for Chelsea?

He showed his undoubted talent during his time at Ajax, as he was directly involved in 130 goals in 165 appearances in all competitions. Things have not quite clicked for him in the Premier League, though.

Thus far, he has lacked consistency, but if he can replicate his recent display against Villa on a regular basis, Ziyech could still fulfill his potential in west London.
