WWE NXT Superstar Samoa Joe recently had to relinquish his NXT Championship due to injury and not being cleared by WWE Officials.

Joe would give up the title just before the relaunch of the brand with NXT 2.0, where former Champion Tomasso Ciampa regained the belt.

It has been revealed that Joe was apparently not brought back to the brand just to appear as a performer, as he supposedly will have more responsibilities backstage.

Joe was released by WWE from the main roster earlier this year and quickly brought back to the NXT brand, with Triple H reportedly personally offering Joe a new role.

It was confirmed in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Joe was re-hired to the NXT brand primarily in a non-wrestling role:

"Samoa Joe was stripped of the NXT title under weird circumstances to say the least. The story is that he suffered a minor injury and would be back soon but that they were stripping him of the title. The only direct WWE word is that Joe was hired primarily for a non-wrestling role in NXT."

There have been rumours surrounding Joe and his actual health status right now, with some believing that he is in fact not injured but played the role he was brought back to do (taking the NXT Championship off of Karrion Kross) and is now transitioning into a backstage role.

These rumours are obviously just that, rumours, so we cannot confirm the validity of this at this time.

In the second episode of the revamped Turnbuckle Talk podcast, Louis Dangoor and special guest Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful talk about the biggest news in professional wrestling, including Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole's AEW debuts, the health of Triple H, Kevin Owens potentially leaving WWE and more.
