With his side due to receive a hefty points deduction following the news on Friday that they will go into administration, Derby boss Wayne Rooney was understandably delighted with his side's 2-1 victory over Stoke at Pride Park on Saturday in the Championship.

With barely enough senior players at the club to fill a matchday squad, England's record goalscorer continues to insist that he won't walk away from his post as the Rams' manager.

This is despite the fact that his side look likely to be docked a total of 21 points if both the administration goes through and a separate investigation into Financial Fair Play breaches finds against them.

Despite their dire situation off the field, first-half goals from Max Bird and Curtis Davies helped Derby secure their second win of the season, providing some much-needed relief for their loyal home support.

Ravel Morrison should have wrapped up the points for the hosts shortly after the break - and frankly, we're still not quite sure how he didn't!

Having capitalised on some indecision between Stoke goalkeeper Josef Bursik and his defence, the ex-Manchester United man found himself with the goal at his mercy.

The 28-year-old could almost have walked the ball into an empty net, but instead somehow managed to fire wide of the target.

It's an absolute shocker - and you can check it out below.

The terrible miss meant that home fans were made to sweat on the result when Tom Ince grabbed a goal for Stoke after 58 minutes. The visitors could even have drawn level late on - had Ben Wilmot managed to convert a decent headed chance.

On the balance of play, however, it would have been tough on Derby to only go away with a point, especially given the week they've had.

"I’m committed to this football club,” Rooney said after the match, per talkSPORT. "I care about the players, I care about the staff I work with and I’ll do everything in my power to help us get through this.

"There will be difficult moments, we know that, but we will come out the other side for the better."

The Rams travel to Sheffield United next weekend, where Rooney will be hoping that Morrison has packed his shooting boots. In their current plight, Derby can't afford to be passing up the sort of chance that he squandered this weekend.
