Devin Clark suffered a horrific facial injury during his Saturday night loss to Moldovan Ion Cutelaba at UFC Vegas 37.

The American fighter had to convince the referee and his corner to let the bout continue despite the damage done to his teeth and gums by the Moldovan fighter.

Blood poured from Clark’s mouth as he gallantly battled on, but ultimately, lost via unanimous decision, and it looks like he might have lost a few teeth also.

The light heavyweight event was originally due to take place back in May, but was postponed after Clark was forced to withdraw from the fight with an injury.

But in the co-main event of the evening, it was Clark who came out of the blocks firing, taking control of the early exchanges.

Yet, things soon turned against Clark as Cutelaba, whose nickname is the ‘Hulk’, fought back to land a string of brutal shots on the American while scoring a significant knockdown in the first round.

Pummelling 64 significant strikes into Clark, the Moldovan relentlessly hammered his opponent, and the damage was left bare on Clark’s face, with claret-red blood streaming from the fighter’s mouth.

Here’s the moment the incident happened.

Unflinchingly, Clark showed his toughness and continued to battle to the final round against the advice of his corner.

Having lost his last fight to Anthony Smith just under a year ago, Clark was desperate for the win, but after trailing Cutelaba going into the final round, he couldn’t out-power his opponent.

The Moldovan ended the bout scoring another takedown on Clark and took his 16th victory in MMA, but was notably concerned for Clark after the fight, stating: “It’s very, very… yeah, I looked, and I’m not happy.

“I’m not happy,” he repeated, expressing his concern for his opponent before going on to praise Clark for his toughness, saying it was his knee that caused Clark the damage.

“Of course, it was my knee,” Cutelaba said. “My knee and hand. Very strong punch, but Clark is a very good fighter, and I am strong, and my punch is very tough, but he’s very strong, my opponent.”

Clark’s career record will now move to 12-6 overall, and the 31-year-old fighter thankfully appears to be recovering in hospital.
