Emma Raducanu joins Serena Williams & Naomi Osaka in hitting Instagram milestone

A week after her historic US Open victory, Emma Raducanu has hit two million followers on Instagram.

The Brit becomes just the fifth active female tennis player to reach this milestone, after Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Eugenie Bouchard, and Sania Mirza.

Raducanu has taken the tennis world by storm after becoming the first qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam, aged just 18.

Her exploits on the court have led to a mass wave of media attention and the teenager has rapidly become one of the most well-known names in the world of tennis.

Thanks to her newfound fame, Raducanu was even invited to attend this year’s Met Gala and wore an all Chanel outfit that she posted a picture of on social media. She captioned the photo: “About last night… #themet.”

Raducanu was also spotted posing for photos on the red carpet with film star Kristen Stewart and model Lily-Rose Depp.

Since then, the British sensation has spoken to almost every major UK broadcaster, including the BBC, ITV and Sky, where she has further endeared herself to the public.

Though she considers herself British, Raducanu’s mother is from Shenyang, China, and she is able to speak fluent mandarin. A clip of her speaking to the China Global Television Network went viral recently, where the teenager professed to loving Chinese food.

All of this has contributed to Raducanu’s influx of social media followers, but the Brit is being carefully managed by her team.

Indeed, the 18-year-old didn’t check her phone at all during the US Open and admitted on Good Morning America last week that she had still yet to respond to her congratulatory messages.

The Brit now has one of the biggest followings in tennis, but there is still some way to go until she catches Williams, who has 13.6 million Instagram followers of her own.

India’s Mirza, who is a six-time Grand Slam doubles champion, has 7.9 million, while Osaka and Bouchard have 2.8 and 2.1 million respectively.

This is still just the start for Raducanu though, and that follower count is likely to continue growing at a rapid rate.
