New WWE signee and Olympic Gold Medallist Gable Steveson recently revealed how Brock Lesnar helped to influence his decision to join the company.

Steveson was one of the big names coming out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and now he is set to be fast-tracked to the top of the professional wrestling world.

Reportedly there was a 'bidding war' between WWE and the UFC for the services of Steveson. Still, it was later revealed that Dana White had offered a far more minor role for Steveson in the most prominent MMA organisation in the world.

Speaking on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Steveson outlined exactly how important Lesnar was in his decision to go to the WWE first.

“Besides talking to guys like Lesnar and Triple H and such, I haven’t actually talked to another collegiate wrestler in WWE….(Brock) was a good part (of the decision) because the Brock Lesnar path, like we talked about, he started with WWE and went to the NFL and made it to the final stages of being on the team, then went to UFC. So, I mean the Brock Lesnar route is helpful for me, and I want to pave my own way and have my own destiny. He was a big help in this, and it was cool that he gave me some guidance.”

There's no confirmation on when Steveson will appear on WWE programming, but recent reports have indicated that WWE is extremely keen to get the collegiate wrestler on the main roster as soon as possible, potentially even in 2022.

In the second episode of the revamped Turnbuckle Talk podcast, Louis Dangoor and special guest Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful talk about the biggest news in professional wrestling, including Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole's AEW debuts, the health of Triple H, Kevin Owens potentially leaving WWE and more.
