Manchester United face competition from AC Milan in the race to sign Paulo Henrique Ganso from Santos, according to Metro.

The Brazilian playmaker, touted for big things, is expected to leave Brazil along with teammate Neymar as early as this January.

United's name has been mentioned in dispatches in relation to the 21-year-old, but Milan also appear keen to land Ganso.

The Premier League champions face other problems in their attempts to sign the player, with the asking price of £40 million likely to put off United.

In addition, with a move to Milan reportedly close during the summer transfer window, United face a stiff task persuading Ganso his future lies away from Italy.
