Midlands-based journalist Luke Hatfield has claimed that Wolves' supporters were left frustrated by the club's end to the transfer window last month.

What did Hatfield say about Wolves's end to the transfer window?

Wolves were linked with signing a host of players on deadline day, including Renato Sanches, Boubacar Kamara and Kieffer Moore. They did not manage to get a single deal over the line, though, and Hatfield feels that the fans have been left underwhelmed by the club's transfer business this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about Wolves' failure to sign anyone on deadline day, he said: “You can understand the frustration in the fanbase for it. Because, those names are exciting names as well, you look at Kamara, and you look at Sanches, maybe not Kieffer Moore as much, but still a signing who would come for big money.

“And it would have been exciting to see them at Wolves but ultimately when you’re acting at that point in the window, you’re not only trying to battle time, but you’re trying to find a way of getting the deal done where the club you’re buying from then has to replace that player, and ultimately you just don’t have the time to do that a lot of the time.

“So, it would have been really frustrating for Wolves fans and for Wolves as well because they’ll have wanted to back Lage more. They have added some players but, given the names that they were linked with late on, I think a lot of fans will be frustrated with how that window’s ended.”

How have Wolves started the season?

Despite failing to pick up a single point from their opening three league fixtures, there were some positive signs for Wolves in these matches. They suffered consecutive 1-0 losses to Leicester, Tottenham and Manchester United, but the results could have been very different if they had a little more luck on their side.

Bruno Lage's men did get off the mark at the fourth time of asking when they beat Watford 2-0 at Vicarage Road, but they then slipped to another defeat by the same scoreline on Saturday at home to Brentford.

As a result, they are currently down in 16th place in the table, stuck on three points after five matches.

Are they at risk of being dragged into a relegation scrap?

It is still very early in the season, but Wolves have certainly not got the results that they would have hoped for so far.

In their first four games, there were reasons to be optimistic, as they pushed some of the best sides in the league to their limits. However, the way they were brushed aside by Brentford on the weekend was concerning.

Wolves should still have enough to beat the drop, as they have experienced internationals in their squad such as Conor Coady and Joao Moutinho, plus they can rely on the unique talent that is Adama Traore in the final third of the pitch.

Still, they did themselves no favours in the transfer window, and if they perform like they did against Brentford on a regular basis, they could have a battle on their hands to stay in the top-flight this season.
