Joe Wainman has revealed that Leeds rejected offers for young winger Crysencio Summerville.
What happened with Summerville?
After showing some outstanding form for the club’s Under-23s last season on his way to scoring six goals and adding six assists in 12 appearances, the 19-year-old attracted attention from both the Championship and aboard.
According to Football Insider, Swansea City, Club Brugge and Dutch Eredivisie outfits Groningen and Heerenveen were just some of the clubs interested in signing the teenager.
However, following the departures of both Helder Costa and Ian Poveda, who joined Valencia and Blackburn Rovers on loan, Summerville has been promoted to the first-team by Marcelo Bielsa.
And after being an unused substitute for Leeds opening four Premier League games, the teenager, who doesn’t turn 20 until next month, was rewarded with his first-team debut against Newcastle on Friday evening.
Summerville has been in and around Bielsa’s team for some time, and his big moment finally arrived when he replaced Raphinha with 23 minutes remaining at St James’ Park.
He didn’t get a chance to mark his first-team bow with his first ever goal in English football, but he more than held his own and will be hoping to go one better and earn his first start at Fulham in the Carabao Cup this week.

What did Wainman say about Summerville?
He told GIVEMESPORT: “We turned down offers in the summer, not short of offers from Europe and the Championship.
“Utrecht made a bid as well and we turned them all of them down, so Summerville should be buzzing with that, because that can only give you a boost as a footballer to know that Bielsa wants to keep you close.”
Will Summerville get further chances?
Raphinha, Dan James and Jack Harrison are all above Summerville in the pecking order, and unless something dramatically changes, that’ll continue to be the case.
But Summerville is clearly trusted by the Leeds manager and will be hoping to add further appearances to his tally in the coming weeks.
Summerville is still some way off becoming a regular in the first-team, but now that he’s firmly in Bielsa’s thoughts, it should make for a bright future for the 19-year-old.
