Sadly, however, even he was unable to rally the troops and take the game by the scruff of the neck.

He certainly tried, but if there was anything to sum up the current state of Barcelona at the moment, it would be the bicycle kick Depay made a complete hash of early in the second half.

He simply got up way too early and was already on his way down by the time the ball arrived and it harmlessly glanced off his studs.

Depay has a history of spannering overheads as was shown by the moment he left Wayne Rooney and his son giggling on the bench following a similarly failed attempt at Manchester United.

Koeman's non-plussed reaction on the sidelines said it all as a simple frown and shrug of the shoulders was all he could muster.

The draw means that Barcelona now find themselves down in seventh on the La Liga table - five points behind El Classico rivals Real Madrid in first.

With the club in turmoil, it certainly does look like things are going to get a whole lot worse before they start to get better.
